Before you begin your Tanzanian journey, make sure that your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your arrival date. In most cases, travelers will also need a visa to enter Tanzania.
Visas on arrival can be obtained at key entry points such as Julius Nyerere International Airport and Kilimanjaro International Airport. However, it is highly recommended to apply for an eVisa prior to your trip to avoid long wait times. Keep a copy of your visa approval and travel itinerary available for immigration officers.
Consult with your healthcare provider for advice on essential vaccinations, including Yellow Fever, which is mandatory if you’re arriving from or passing through a Yellow Fever-endemic region.
Malaria is common; we highly recommend anti-malarial medication and insect repellent. Additionally, we advise carrying a basic first aid kit and purchasing travel insurance that covers trekking, safaris, and emergency evacuation.
The official currency is the Tanzanian Shilling (TZS). While U.S. dollars are commonly accepted in tourist spots, carry some local currency for rural areas. ATMs are found in larger cities like Dar es Salaam, Arusha, and Zanzibar.
Tipping: Typical tipping is 10-15% in restaurants. For safaris, rewarding guides, drivers, and porters is a common token of appreciation for their hard work.
Wildlife: The dry season (June to October) is prime for safaris and the Great Migration.
Zanzibar: June to October offers sunny weather and calm seas for snorkeling.
Kilimanjaro: January to March and June to October provide the most stable climbing conditions.
Tanzania has over 120 ethnic groups. In Muslim-majority areas like Zanzibar, please dress modestly (covering shoulders and knees). A smile and a "Jambo" (Hello) or "Asante" (Thank you) go a long way.
Always ask for permission before taking photographs of locals. Respect the environment; avoid littering and follow your guide's instructions in national parks.
A 30% deposit is required to secure your booking. Final balance payment is required 30 days before arrival or in cash on arrival. Bank expenses are on the customer side.
At African Platinumz Safaris, we are flexible. We will negotiate with accommodations for credit notes to allow you to postpone your safari. If they refuse, the following fees apply:
| Days Prior to Departure | % of Total Cost to Pay |
|---|---|
| 30 - 35 days | Loss of deposit |
| 28 - 7 days | 70% of total safari cost |
| Less than 7 days | 100% of total safari cost |
We cannot compensate for incidents beyond our control (war, natural disasters, pandemics, etc.). African Platinumz Safaris is not responsible for damages attributable to client fault or third-party omissions.
Clients must obtain their own travel insurance from their home country, including medical coverage, evacuation, and repatriation. Ensure your insurer knows the type of travel (safari/trekking) you are undertaking.
