Kilimanjaro Trekking
The Machame Route, also known as the "Whiskey Route," is the most popular path to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. Over 7 days, this route offers a great balance of challenge and beauty, with an extra day for acclimatization which significantly increases summit success rates. You will traverse stunning rainforests, moorlands, and high-altitude deserts.
After breakfast in Arusha/Moshi, you’ll be driven to the Machame Gate. After registration, begin your trek through the lush tropical rainforest. Keep an eye out for black and white colobus monkeys. The day ends at Machame Camp, located just above the forest line.
The trail steepens today as you leave the forest and enter the moorland zone. You will cross several streams and walk over a rocky ridge onto the Shira Plateau. From the camp, you’ll have a spectacular view of Kibo and the Western Breach glaciers.
A crucial acclimatization day. You will climb up to the "Lava Tower" at 4,600m for lunch (Climb High) before descending back down to Barranco Camp (Sleep Low). This day is tough but prepares your body perfectly for the summit bid.
Begin the morning by conquering the Great Barranco Wall—a fun and safe scramble. From the top, you have great views of Heim Glacier. You will then cross a series of hills and valleys before arriving at Karanga Camp for hot lunch and rest.
The trek turns into a desolate alpine desert. You will reach Barafu Camp (the Base Camp) by midday. The afternoon is spent resting and preparing gear for the summit. You will have an early dinner and go to sleep around 7 PM to prepare for the midnight start.
Wake up at midnight for the final push. It is mentally and physically challenging as you climb to Stella Point (5,756m). From there, it's a 1-hour hike to Uhuru Peak—the Roof of Africa! After celebrating, you descend back to Barafu for a quick rest before continuing down to Mweka Camp (3,100m).
The final descent takes you back through the rainforest. At the Mweka Gate, you will receive your official gold certificate for reaching Uhuru Peak. After a farewell song from your crew, you'll be driven back to your hotel for a long-awaited hot shower.
